Marine BP Ltd manufactures modified biopolymer for subsea applications.
Mergel is a modified biopolymer which was designed by Marine BP Ltd to be used as subsea insulation for temporary installations.
Mergel was first used on the Dalia Subsea development project offshore Angola.
Mergel characteristics are:
- Lifetime 3-5 years
- Temperature range -3 to 121 degrees Celsius
- ROV installable by using a fluid skid.
Mergel is no longer manufactured by Marine BP Ltd and has been replaced by SEPORID.
SEPORID (TM) is a high yield, high temperature, premium grade marine biopolymer.
SEPORID is used in several subsea applications such as:
- Subsea insulation
- Capsulation of drill cuttings and drill fluids
SEPORID characteristics are:
- Lifetime 15 years
- Temperature range -3 to 166 degrees Celsius
- ROV installable
